The work of Clare Kenny is both an investigation of the material and processes of various mediums with a focus upon photographic practices. Often taking the image out from the wall into 3 dimensional space and applying further applications to their surfaces such as varnishes and spraypaint or undertaking an action such as folding or punching holes into its surface. Creating interruptions and interferences with the photographic content drawing attention not only the image and material of the photohgraph but also to the space around it and the viewer themselves. Often installed together with found and formed objects from mirror, cement, glass, etc. These objects are often created from the remnants and ephemera of photographic and studio practices, such as glass from frames and plastic sheeting first used as protection during spraying, together they form multi layered installations revealing the processes of the artistic practice and presenting unusual constellations of objects and images presented in unexpected ways. Through curating and creating objects and images both within the framework of the gallery system and external to it, I constantly try to open the possibilities and potential of these objects; continuing to explore the apparatus of the gallery, to reflect upon and infer alternative readings of work.
