Gloria Houng

Gloria Houng lives and works in Brooklyn, New York and New Orleans, Louisiana. She has degrees from the School of Visual Arts and the University of California at Berkeley. Her most recent works have been exhibited at OIA Gallery and Goliath Visual Space, both in New York City.
She works in a variety of media, including installation, sculpture, painting, and photography. Her paintings and sculpture primarily deal with themes of displacement, loss, and degradation played out in false, sometimes humorous, narratives. Animals feature as protagonists in many of these works - farm animals especially juxtapose their benign natures against hostile or ambivalent environments. Works on paper take on a more ideological approach explored in often formal conceptual structures. With a slightly feminist bent, markings such as writing or make-up are made repetitively on paper to create large abstract visual fields.
