Internal Polygon number 1 is a result of an exploration into the relationships of equal sided polygons. In this particular model 'self similarity’ within the geometry from macro to micro scale is resultant from the relationships between the same shape in factored scales, this particular piece is of order 4. The piece is made from 3102 individual pieces of laser cut Acrylic.

In the act of appreciation whether a work of art, a piece of music or a scientific equation the beholder experiences those precise emotions which passed through the mind of the creator in his moment of creation. With the help of the artist he himself shares the joy of creation. However the act of appreciation is not always given, the path to real aesthetic pleasure is often through toil. These words encapsulate what is fundamental to the experience of my work.

The subject of my work is science, particularly mathematics, geometry and the properties of number being of particular interest. In my work I have shifted mathematics from its role of regulator (of harmony and equilibrium) to being the primary concern, the subject is mathematics. Once the mathematics has been established I can follow this with a concept, the concept allows a development, organization as well as a framework of discussion to be developed and delivered.

My work arises after much experimentation, I arrive at what I consider a fundamental discovery. I then strive to understand this discovery by disseminating and striping down to the basic element or underlying principal which defines the discovery. This is done through working methodologies that are akin to scientific experiments with factors analyzed in controlled conditions. Written proofs can be ascertained allowing me to validate the work. Once the base or principal factor is established I can then add levels of complexity.

How the work is realized is down to what medium or method is most appropriate. The utilization of new technology where relevant such as digital programmes / printing / fabrication allows me to achieve technical perfection and clarity as well as extending the possibilities of my work by producing more complex and intricate work.
