I am interested in the hierarchy of objects, and the social status of people as determined historically and contemporaneously. My paintings attempt to distort and subvert hierarchical values.

The paintings of historical figures, such as dandies, regents, and macaronis, reflect their ill-defined status. These characters display a mantle of superficiality and superiority. Doubts as to their position are answered by their appearance. In contrast, the precise representation of craftsmen’s tools elevates these objects to a higher status, confusing the established hierarchy where the artisan’s craft belongs to a lower order.
