RODRIGO SASTRE
Sobreviviendo al fin del mundo

From May 18th to July 27th 2012
OPENING
Friday Mayo 18th from 20:30 to 22:00

We are pleased to invite you to the show "Sobreviviendo al fin del mundo" a project by the artists Marcos Castro and Rodrigo Sastre presenting their individual experiences as artists as well as joint work which arises from a trip to the desert of Mexico where they worked together for the realization of a film.

Both artists, living in Mexico City, question the worlds closest to them or idealized through the experience of drawing as a starting point for both. For this exhibition raised as field work, they carry out in five rooms of the gallery their individual work with two joint interventions, one on the front of the gallery and one in the 3rd floor that brings together their common experiences in the form of a video well as a wall drawing as "exquisite corpse" in which each creator participates continuing the fragments of the one before in a continuous cross of synergies.

MARCOS CASTRO (Mexico City, Mexico 1981) reflects on a fundamental act in the art: the look. By diverse media he explores the dialogue between materials of natural origin as graphite and wood, that serves as a technique to speak of what is human from subjective codes in his relation with the media and with the multiplicity of the points of view of the spectator. He Integrates elements from his personal mythology and from nature as testimonial symbols of contemporary society. The work is an exploration of the interactions between techniques and formats that includes drawing, painting, stage resources, installation, animation, video-art and video-installation. He puts the spectator in a vigilant position before his will of contemplation.

He was among the chosen in the official selection of the Biennial Tamayo 2006, in the Scholarship young Creators of FONCA 2007 and in the residence Artist in Residence at 18th Street Art Center Los Angeles in 2008. His work has been presented individually in the Museo experimental El Eco and in La Casa del Lago in Mexico City. As well as collectively in the USA and Spain. Currently he has a show in the Museo de la Ciudad in Mexico City.

RODRIGO SASTRE (Buenos Aires, Argentina 1977) has managed to move from hobby to true appropriation, adopting the narratives, themes, solutions and forms from comics to tell his own story. In the works of this artist, we can read and deduce his fears, the complications in his romantic life, his way of seeing life, and episodes of privacy, where the reasons for their circumstances are represented (and covered ...) by monsters, ghosts, villains, aliens, improbable situations, superpowers and in some cases triumphant heroes although generally they are failing. In the works of this artist, the comics are telling the life of a normal person. When passing through the filter of fantasy and science fiction, the daily events of the artist becomes a visual hybrid where he stops speaking of what he would like to be, to show what he actually is. What is valuable in the work of this artist is that he has finally understood that there is no need to fantasize endlessly about superpowers and amazing skills that are impossible to obtain. Rodrigo has to come to the conclusion that making art is a superpower.

Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1977 the district of Palermo. He studied at the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes "Prilidiano Pueyrredon", and moved to Mexico in 2000. He finished his studies at the National School of Painting, Sculpture and Engraving, The Esmeraldaza in 2008 and is one of the latest incorporations of the gallery.
