"What is split in two in consciousness joins into one in the unconscious."- Sigmund Freud
From Concerning a Particular Type of Object-choice in Men, 1905

Inspired by the writings of modern psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud, Anthony Spinello presents Perfect Lovers, a group exhibition at White Box investigating the realms of human relationships, mortality and time's inevitable flow.

The exhibition's catalyst father is firmly Sigmund Freud, whose psychoanalysis is at the heart of our widespread unconscious mind, its transferences and latent desires. Freud's take on the unconscious offered a complex investigation on how we interact with the world. Perfect Lovers riffs on Freud's most compelling declarations amid topics of critical debate and influence.

Blanketed by concepts of duality and the 'other,' Perfect Lovers presents works simultaneously clinical and confessional, romanic and sublime. A group of eleven contemporary artists consider the turbulent facets of partnership - works ranging from an unembellished two-person wheelchair to a dour graphite rendering of Vladimir Nabokov's controversial Lolita (1955). Israeli-born Naama Tsabar's Untitled (Double Face) presents two back-to-back guitars married as one instrument, exploring the relationship between performers through the sculptural object. Straddling the divide between the unrequited and unconditional, Perfect Lovers makes its bidding in the quiet moment with deep implications.

Participating artists are Layet Johnson, Sinisa Kukec, Ruben Millares, Federico Nessi, Manny Prieres, Bert Rodriguez, Leyden Rodriguez-Casanova, Frances Trombly, Naama Tsabar, Agustina Woodgate and Antonia Wright.
