The sculptor Wang Shugang, born in 1960 in Beijing, lived 10 years in Germany and returned to China in 2000. From the ambivalence of the cultural experience models he creates his form.
In the last nine years, Wang has developed some sculptural basic types, which apparently emanate from the figuration of the Realism in the 20th century, and simultaneously from the Buddhist iconography or the triviality of the Chinese daily culture. Motifs consist of the "sweeping monk", the "lama", the "sitting one" or the "Qi Gong-player". With this most reduced repertoire andbronze, the artist creates a language that broaches the issue of the cultural difference caused by the material, and challenges the western and eastern canon.
The exhibition "Two are better than one" presents 19 recently developed bronze works. The Installation will appear like a "drawing" in the white gallery space.
