Art Scene Warehouse is pleased to present Chinese contemporary artist Jin Jian and his new solo exhibition - On the Road. Out of over 1000 artists, Jin Jian was chosen by a prestigious international panel as one of the top 25 emerging Chinese artists at the renowned Chinese Art Prize in 2007. Since then Jin Jian's work has been featured in important exhibitions, including an exhibition at the Duolun Art Museum in Shanghai, at Art Cologne in Germany and at the Toronto International Art Fair in Canada.

Jin Jian paints ordinary vehicles - trains, trucks and tractors among them - to convey his feelings about contemporary China. Nearly all of Jin Jian’s vehicles have no license plates or fixed numbers, making them transitory and virtually impossible to trace. They represent not only a vehicle, but a story, a section of the society. These vehicles for transportation and for bringing progress to their passangers convey messages, in an almost ghost-like fashion, and that’s why the artist is obsessed with it.

Great economic progress brings great new experiences and impacts people’s beliefs and behavior. In his “Big Progress” series, Jin Jian implies that the great power forward is the true reflection of one's surroundings. Jin's paintings are filled with rust, melting and flowing, yet they are striking, both visually and psychologically. These seemingly beaten-up shapes represent a particular kind of status. In Jin Jian’s eyes, every rusty vehicle carries a thick layer of dust and history.
