Odds and Ends features works by Dyan Green, a process-based artist new to the San Antonio community.
Dyan's work often begins with a careful search. She collects items such as vintage buttons, sewing pins, lost keys, broken jewelry and discarded toys. Dyan asks acquaintances to donate their junk drawer items, garage bobbles and other odds and ends to her collection. From these small and insignificant items she creates a palette of forms rich in color and texture. These items are both the medium of the work and inspiration for works in other mediums.
The artwork in Odds and Ends explores beauty in the mundane. They are playful abstractions, but also speak to the quiet tradition of women's handy craft. They are products of the indulgence in making; existing at the crossroads between tedium and meditation.
Dyan Green received a BFA in ceramics from Kansas State University in 2003. She holds a MFA in sculpture from Southern Illinois University Carbondale (2006) and a M. Ed. from Texas State University (2010). She currently teaches sculpture, ceramics and art history at Saint Mary's Hall in San Antonio, TX.
