WILLEM PEEKENBRINK
There is a light. . .
06.11 - 31.12.2009
Opening Friday, November 6, 2009 18.00 - 21.00
Jean-Marc Spaans, (Amsterdam 1967) is not really a photographer but a painter of light which he moves like a brush.
This is also shown that the attention for his work witch he received in recent years, came from the visual arts and from the world of photography.
In the series of works, originated in Japan, is not only the light itself, but is also the area where he works his challenge. A garden path is a swirling stream of light, middle of the forest appears a cupola and lightning rises from the water. More than ever the environment witch Spaans choosed interacts with its light action.
Spaans photographic works are primarily a colourful, sometimes mysterious and dreamy illusion.
Jean-Marc Spanish exhibited at Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Rotterdam, Hague Museum of Photography, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Art Forum Berlin and Paris Photo.
William Speekenbrink (Breda, 1953) is a sculptor who loves paradoxes and contradiction.
His work can sometimes be very serious and theoretically, but for the good viewer he often hides a wink. In almost all his work he seeks a relationship with the environment and tries to cross borders.
The new sculptures at a first sight are looking like fossils, appearing in a desolate and destroyed landscape. Are there real diamonds that sparkle? Is it the radiation of the (atomic) bomb or the remnants of a decorative Christmas lights?
William Speekenbrink exhibited earlier in the Bergkerk in Deventer, Gemeentemuseum Den Haag, Living Art Museum Reykjavic, Galerie Erhard Dresden, Kunstraum Berlin, Galerie Lutz Fiebig Berlin Kunstmesse Dusseldorf, Stadsmuseum Jena and Brutto Gusto Rotterdam.
