COMPETITION
SHARE PRIZE FESTIVAL, Turin, Italy
DIGITAL ARTS & CULTURES
Deadline: September 30, 2006

This competition enriches the already successful formula of the Share Festival. In fact, without a contest, what festival would it be? What would be celebrated if there were no winner?

And it’s for this reason that the Share team announces an international contest for existing works of digital art.
A Jury will award a prize of Euro 2,500 to the work (published or not) that best represents experimentation of arts and new technologies.

The competition aims to discover, promote and sustain digital arts and is open to all Italian and international artists.

Bluetenweiss, Raum fuer Kunst, Berlin
Anonymous Drawings – Call for Entries
Deadline : September 30th, 2006

“Bluetenweiss, Raum fuer Kunst” opens in October 2006 under the management of Anke Becker and Jens Siekmann.

A gallery preview is scheduled for October 14th, 2006 in the “bluetenweiss” gallery, at 224 Prenzlauer Allee, 10405 Berlin: an exhibition titled “Anonymous Drawings” is slated for this date.

Concept and Idea

Drawings (size max. DIN A3) by anonymous artists will be shown in the gallery on the scheduled evening; the exhibiting artists will remain anonymous until their work(s) are sold. Works will sell for a uniform price of Euro 100,00; buyers will be informed of the artist’s identity upon purchase of his/her work.

Exhibited drawings will be the work of both professional and non-professional artists. Because of this, we ask that the viewer him/herself draw the line between Art and Non-Art. A priori for the evaluation of the work on this evening is not the name and the biography of the individual artist, but the work actually shown.

Participation

  • 1-5 drawings on paper, maximum size DIN A3
  • Send separately the name, address and e mail address of the artist (for our files), and
  • SASE (if you wish your drawings returned).
Send to the following address:
Bluetenweiss, Raum fuer Kunst
Prenzlauer Allee 224
D-10405 Berlin

Deadline for submission of art work and information is September 30th, 2006. Confirmation of receipt will be sent out per e mail.

“bluetenweiss” reserves the right to choose which works will be exhibited; our priorities, however, are formal, content and qualitative variety. The artists will receive 60% of the sales price.

It is planned to hold “Anonymous Drawings” exhibits on a regular basis between “bluetenweiss” exhibitions. Planned are monthly “Anonymous Drawings” exhibits. Works which are not sold will be stored by “bluetenweiss” for future exhibits. Such works which remain unsold will be returned to the artist in October 2007.

“bluetenweiss” will publish a catalog or brochure, showing a selection of works, for each “Anonymous Drawings” exhibit.

We recommend: the more artists participate in this venture, the more exciting will be future exhibits! So, please, share this Call for Entries with other artists, your friends, acquaintances and relatives!
Thank you.

FELLOWSHIP
A.I.R. Gallery NYC Women Artists Fellowship Program
Deadline November 15th, 2006

Seeking NYC-area women artists for 18-month sponsorship and solo show.

Founded in 1972, A.I.R. is the first artist-run, not-for- profit gallery for women artists in the country. The announcement for the gallery’s first exhibition in September of 1972 elaborates our founding precept: “A.I.R. does not sell art; it changes attitudes about art by women. A.I.R. offers women artists a space to show work as innovative, transitory or unsaleable as the artists’ conceptions demands.” Based on the feminist principles of economic cooperation and decision by consensus, A.I.R. continues to offer an alternative venue for women that protects the creative process and the individual voice of the artist.

The Fellowship Program, in place since 1993, provides under-represented and emerging artists with the opportunity to develop their work in preparation for a solo show, to build relationships with other artists and arts professionals, and to learn about gallery operations. A panel of outside curators, critics and established artists selects participating artists annually. Panelists visit the individual artists’ studios in preparation for their solo shows. Each participating artist works directly with the gallery artists to staff gallery programs and activities, as well as to plan and implement a public program or special project for the gallery during their tenure. The involved artists leave the program with a series of naturally forged, significant relationships, experiences and skill sets that benefit their careers as visual artists.

The 2006 Selection Panel: : Matthew Higgs, director of White Columns; Shamim Momin, curator and Branch Director, Whitney at Altria; and , Susana Torruella Level, Director Emirtus, El Museo del Barrio and Council Member, NYSCA.

Intermix06, Pavilion, Leeds, UK
Deadline : 29 September, 2006

Pavilion is a Leeds based visual arts organisation with over twenty years experience in engaging with photography and lens-based media. We celebrate, develop and promote the practice of photography as a powerful tool of creative expression and social empowerment.

We commission new work, organise exhibitions, develop and deliver artist-led education projects and promote and support regional practitioners.

Intermix is Pavilion’s annual programme of contemporary artists’ film and video; a platform for which emerging and established talent from across the UK and abroad is showcased side by side.

In 2005, our programme featured: Pope and Guthrie, Nathalie Latham, Maja Borg, A.A.S and Jose Pedro Cortes amongst others.

Submission Guidelines Intermix06

Pavilion is now seeking work for inclusion in the Intermix06 programme. The selected work will be showcased in conjunction with the Leeds International Film Festival in November 2006.

Pavilion is looking for work that addresses the concept of ‘Moments’. Moments signify a passage of time. Moments can shape and affect ones persona and identity, impacting upon the spaces people occupy and the lives that others lead. Many people can remember a particular moment in time that changed the direction of their life significantly. Moments can be entirely personal or be drawn from the world and experiences others share and communicate that create a moment of significance of change.

Pavilion is unfortunately unable to offer successful applicants a screening fee. Selected work will be fully credited on all publicity material and links from the Pavilion website to practitioners’ websites will be created. Each screened practitioner will receive a copy of marketing/pr material and any publicity generated.

The Selection Panel will base its decision upon submitted material only and will not enter into any further discussion. The decision made will be final. The selection panel consists of Anna Reid (Director, Pavilion), Ruth Haycock (Project Manager, Pavilion) and Jamie Hutchison (Media Arts Facilitator, Pavilion).

You are required to submit the following:
  • Completed Artist Submission Form.

GRANTS
The Aftermath Project, Portland OR
INTERNATIONAL PHOTOGRAPHIC PROJECT GRANTS
Deadline : Oct 31, 2006

The Aftermath Project's mission is to support photographic projects that tell the other half of the story of conflict-the story of what it takes for individuals to learn to live again, to rebuild destroyed lives and homes, to restore civil societies, to address the lingering wounds of war while struggling to create new avenues for peace.

Grant proposals should reflect an understanding of this mission. Proposals may relate to the aftermath of any kind of conflict, not just armed. The conflict can be at the community level‹for example, violence between rural ethnic groups, or an urban riot in an industrialized country. The conflict may have been a regional one, such as a rebel insurgency, or it may have been a full-scale war. For the purposes of the grant program, the current situation in Iraq would NOT be deemed an aftermath situation, as the conflict and press coverage continue daily.

Proposals should include an explanation of the aftermath issues related to the specific story being proposed by a grant applicant. They should also include a year-long overview of the applicant's plans for covering the story. Because The Aftermath Project recognizes the long-term effort required to recover in the aftermath of conflict, grant applicants will be expected to pursue their stories over the course of a year and must demonstrate a plan for doing so. Two grants will be given in 2006, one for $15,000 and one for $20,000.

If you have any questions, please contact Kirsten Rian, Executive Director,
Kirsten@theaftermathproject.org.
